In the gamefowl community, especially in the Negros and Bacolod areas, the UBBA refers to the United Bacolod Breeders Association.
If you are a fan of the Joe Goode Greys, the UBBA is one of the most important groups to follow because they represent the "Cradle of Champions" in Negros. As of late 2025, here is the status and role of this group:
1. The Power of the Association
The UBBA is one of the most elite local associations under FIGBA (International Federation of Gamefowl Breeders Associations). While there are many groups, UBBA is famous for its high concentration of "Master Breeders."
The Membership: It includes many of the names we’ve already discussed, such as Andrew Montelibano (of AM Gwapits) and other heavyweights from the Bacolod-Murcia region.
The "Bacolod Style": The group is known for a specific standard of excellence. A bird with a UBBA wing band is considered to have gone through the most rigorous "mountain-hardening" selection process in the Philippines.
2. UBBA and the Joe Goode Connection
The UBBA breeders are the ones who truly popularized the Joe Goode Grey x Bacolod Lemon cross.
Many UBBA members were the first to import pure Joe Goode blood from the US (via breeders like Sam McMillen or Oscar Santibanez).
They realized that the high-breaking ability of the Silver Joe Goode was the perfect "counter-balance" to the ground-cutting accuracy of the local Bacolod Lemon. This "hybrid" bird became the signature weapon of the UBBA during the major stag derbies of the last decade.
3. The 2025 Focus: Modernization and Biosecurity
This year, the UBBA has been leading the charge in "Science-Based Breeding." Following the challenges of avian diseases and the e-sabong era, the group has shifted its focus:
Strict Vaccination Protocols: They have worked closely with groups like Excellence Poultry (led by Doc Ayong Lorenzo) to create standardized health protocols for all members.
The "Larga Na!" Partnership: You will often see UBBA events featured on digital platforms like Larga Na!, where they showcase the transparency of their derbies and the quality of their farms to a global audience.
4. Key Events: The UBBA Stag Derbies
The UBBA is most famous for its early-bird stag derbies.
Because Negros has a perfect climate for early breeding, UBBA stags are often the first to be "ready" for battle each season.
If you see a Grey winning in a Manila derby early in the year, there is a very high probability it came from a UBBA member’s yard in Bacolod or Murcia.
